MICHAEL GRIFFIN, CB, 6'0 ½, 180, 4.48, AUSTIN BOWIE, TEXAS:
Griffin is one the best pure corners in Texas and is one guy that can literally take the opponents best receiver out of the game with tough man-to-man coverage.
"I am a good one-on-one guy and love the challenge of playing corner," said Griffin. "I don't play cornerback in high school, except once in a game and I played well. I play tailback at my high school, but most colleges are talking to me about playing corner. That's great with me and I hope to play corner quite a bit this season, but I know that my team will need me at outside linebacker as well. I will do anything to help out my team, but my coach says he will get me out to corner as much as he can."
Griffin started for the first team last season as the starting tailback and rushed for 946 yards on 128 carries and he caught 11 passes for 286 yards and four touchdowns receiving. Griffin can bench 215 pounds, squats 370 and he has a 32-inch vertical jump.
Griffin has performed well at the Texas, Texas A&M, TCU and Baylor camps. Griffin has already earned seven scholarship offers he has his choices down to three schools.
"I really like Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma as my top three schools," said Griffin. "I would have to say that Texas is my leader, but only slightly. I have been watching Oklahoma the past two years beat Texas and that has impressed me a lot. I have never been to Oklahoma, so I really don't know a great deal about them. I have just noticed how well they have played the last two years and I know they have beaten Texas head-up and that has impressed me."
"I like coach Dino Babers and Shawn Slocum on the Texas A&M coaching staff and they are the main reason why I am interested in the Aggies," continued Griffin.
"I think that I will try to commit in August or September. I have been to Texas A&M several times and I live right here in Austin. The only school I have to see is Oklahoma and I am going to try to do that before football practice starts."
Griffin has qualified.
