Stephen Thomas, DT, 6'3, 280, 4.9, LANCASTER, TEXAS:
Stephen Thomas is a prototypical defensive tackle that moves well at the point of attack. He always seems to be moving up-field and he also always seems to be double-teamed.
"I can't remember the last time that I was blocked one-on-one," said Thomas with a chuckle. "Man, that is never going to happen. Even when I was a sophomore I was always double-teamed. Now it is just something I deal with because I am used to it. After a while you just accept it and you learn how to beat it. Teams will try to double-team me in a number of different ways and my job is to see it and know how to beat it."
Thomas will start for the third year this year at defensive tackle. He also doubles as a tight end on offense. Thomas can bench 315 pounds, squats 475 and he has posted a 27-inch vertical jump.
He has been to camps in Waco and Dallas and he plans to go to one-day camps at OU, UT and LSU.
It is early in the recruiting process, but Thomas already has a top five. Thomas has been offered by Michigan, Baylor, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Alabama and LSU to name a few.
"I have a pretty good solid five of Texas, OU, Texas A&M, USC and Miami," said Thomas. "Actually, I have a top six because I want to include Virginia Tech. I don't have a favorite because all the schools have something to offer. I am going to take my visits and go wherever I feel comfortable. Oklahoma has not offered me yet, but they came to my school today and they are keeping in real close contact with me. I think that offer will be coming soon."
Thomas says he is going to take the ACT and SAT this summer.
