Hoops: Top junior checks out Norman

Super junior guard Stefanie Gilbreath talks about her final five and unoffical visit to Norman.

Stefanie Gilbreath, G, 6-0, KATY (CINCO RANCH HS), TEXAS:

JH: You, your sister Briana and your mom and dad recently made it up to Norman for an unofficial visit. So how did it go?

SG: "I had fun. I had fun whenever I went up there for camp and I had fun again. I got to see more of the campus this time and the academic center. I got to see some of the classes and what they looked like, and this time I got to see more of Norman that I did before."

JH: So what did you think of Norman?

SG: "I was very nice. I thought it was a little homey town and real comfortable. I liked it."

JH: Did you get to hang out with the team much? Which OU players did you hang out with the most?

SG: "We got to meet most of the team and they were fun. I hung out the most with Courtney and Ashley and we had a great time."

JH: So what are your thoughts on OU?

SG: "It is a good school and I like it down there. They have a great coach and a great team."

JH: So are you close to making a decision?

SG: "I am pretty close. I have it down to five. My schools are Oklahoma, LSU, Georgia, Texas A&M and California."

JH: Do you have a favorite?

SG: "No, not yet."

JH: What did your sister Briana think about it?

SG: "She liked it. She had fun there."

JH: When do you hope to make a decision?

SG: "Hopefully by the end of the summer."

JH: What is your summer going to be like?

SG: "I leave for USA Basketball on June 16. And depending on whether or not I make the team (18 and under), I will be with that team until the end of the month. Then I go the West Coast Elite team in July. My sister is going to play for the West Coast Elite team in June and I will join her when I am done with USA Basketball."

Note: Stefanie and Briana are a packaged deal, which is just fine with every team that is recruiting them. Both are great players and as good as Stefanie is, those that cover women's prep basketball feel in the long run that Briana will be a better player. Briana is an inch taller at 6-1, yet also plays guard in a dominating fashion. The younger sister has a big say in this recruiting and that is why the family is footing the bill for all these unofficial visits. As only a junior, Briana would not be able to go on official visits with her sister so the family foots the bill to all schools of interest so that Briana can see the same things that Stefanie is. Before the visit to Norman there was a question how much Briana liked OU, but following the visit she appears to be much more excited about the Sooners and that is why most feel OU has taken the lead for the pair.
