Recruiting: Sooners lead for Arlington, Texas LB?

Arlington, Texas linebacker starting to get attention from Big 12 schools

The more that college coaches watch Hjelm (Helm) on film the more they like him. Heading into his senior year Hjelm will be starting for the third year and his athletic ability is beginning to attract division-1 looks.

As a sophomore, Hjelm finished with close to 70 tackles on the year and last year he registered close to 80 tackles, despite the fact that he missed four games with a dislocated elbow.

"The injury is perfectly healed and I am ready to play," said Hjelm. "I feel I am going to have a great year and I am working very hard to make sure I have a great year."

Hjelm can bench 330 pounds, squats 290 and has a 30-inch vertical jump. Hjelm did not attend any summer camps this summer and he is still looking for his first offer.

"I have a bunch of schools talking to me right now, but I don't have any scholarships offers," said Hjelm. "The way the coaches are sounding I don't think it will be to much longer before a number of schools to do. Oklahoma is my favorite school right now and the school I would like to go to. I started watching them during their national championship year and have been big fan of what they do every since.

"They always have great linebackers and their linebacker coach does a good job of improving their abilities. I am also talking with Oklahoma State, Colorado and SMU and there are many other schools that I am talking to, but I am waiting to see if they are going to get serious."

Hjelm has qualified.
