DOMINIQUE BROOKS, FS, 6'2, 195, 4.4, NORTH MESQUITE, TEXAS:
Big safeties are in vogue in Texas this year and Brooks is another big, strong free safety type. Brooks broke in as a starter for the first time a year ago finishing with 78 tackles, seven interceptions, two caused fumbles and two fumble recoveries. On special teams, Brooks averaged 20 yards per kick return and he blocked one field goal.
"I think I am one of the best run stoppers in Texas," said Brooks. "I can certainly plug a hole. I am a team player and I am getting better as a cover guy. I can cover anybody, but the way we play on defense puts me in a position where I am a run stopper more than a deep cover guy."
Brooks can bench 230 pounds, squats 360 and he has a 37-inch vertical jump. Brooks also runs the mile relay and sprint relay in track.
Brooks camped at West Virginia and went to the NIKE camp at College Station. Brooks was outstanding at both camps. Brooks has been offered by six schools thus far, but he isn't close to narrowing down his choices.
"I like nine schools right now and I am enjoying the recruiting process," said Brooks. "Right now I like West Virginia, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, LSU, Colorado, Florida and Arizona.
"West Virginia is a slight favorite right now. When I went up to the camp I really liked their program and their facilities. At Oklahoma, I love their style of defense and how they play the game. Every since they put that whooping on Florida State I have loved Oklahoma. They play such a physical style of defense and that is the kind of defense that I want to be a part of."
"West Virginia, Boston College, Arizona, Missouri and UTEP have offered me, but I am told by other schools that they will offer me soon. Many of them haven't offered yet, because I had not passed my test back in the spring, but I retook my ACT and now I have qualified so most of those schools should offer me soon."
