Billy Chavis, ATH, 6'5, 227, 4.7, BEAUMONT (WESTBROOK HS), TEXAS:
Billy Chavis is one of versatile big men in Texas who right now is drawing attention as a tight end and defensive end.
"If I had a wish I would play quarterback. When I started my sophomore year I started at quarterback, but we just didn't have a great concept on offense with that coaching staff. We went 2-8, but I still had close to 1,000 yards passing, and that was in the 10th grade. Since then I have played running back, wide receiver, free safety and strong safety. This year I am going to play wide receiver, free safety and strong safety. Most colleges are recruiting me to play tight end or slot receiver. That is OK with me just, as long as I can get on the field."
Last season, Chavis caught 11 passes 70 yards and he had 75 rushes for 995 yards and 10 touchdowns. He didn't play defense last year.
Chavis can bench 225 pounds, squats 385 and has posted a 36-inch vertical jump. Chavis went to the SMU Junior Day, Texas A&M Junior Day and the Scout All-American Combine at Waco. He also went to the one-day camp at Texas A&M and the Oklahoma State mini-camp.
"I think I picked up three new offers yesterday, so right now I think I have between 15 and 20 offers. Yesterday, UCLA, Clemson and Iowa were the new schools to offer me. I have been offered by LSU, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Missouri, Colorado, Baylor, Iowa State, Minnesota, UTEP just to name a few."
Does he have an intersest in Oklahoma?
"I love Oklahoma. I have been watching Oklahoma just as long as I have Texas A&M or Miami, but I haven't really heard from OU. I am not sure what their interest is, but if they call I would certainly have an interest in OU."
Chavis has the GPA, but he is still looking for the test score.
