RECRUITING: Texas safety loves to get physical

The latest on Mesquite (North HS), Texas strong safety Darrien Williams

Williams teams with cornerback Tarell Brown to form a great one-two punch in the North Mesquite secondary. Williams earned his first starting time last season and worked at both strong safety and cornerback.

Williams finished last season 78 tackles, five interceptions and 19 passes broken up.

"I love playing safety, because I can see the whole field," said Williams. "Strong (safety) has a more physical aspect to it than free and I love to hit and play physical in a game."

Williams can bench 275 pounds, squats 385 and he has a 34.2-inch vertical jump. Williams has been offered by 10 schools and he is in the process of trying to narrow down his choices.

"I like Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Boston College, West Virginia, Kansas State, Baylor, Texas, Iowa, Iowa State and Colorado," said Williams. "Out of those schools Texas, Iowa and Ohio haven't offered but the rest of the schools have. I really do like Oklahoma, but really I am wide open right now."

Williams is still looking to qualify.
