Recruiting: Lineman waiting for OU's call

Blue Springs, Mo. lineman Donald Stephenson talks about his interest in Oklahoma.

Donald Stephenson, OL, 6'6, 285, 5.0, BLUE SPRINGS, MISSOURI:

In the state of Missouri, Donald Stephenson is considered one of the best prospects in the state. But after committing to Kansas early, he has backed off his verbal and opened up his recruiting once again.

"I still like Kansas a lot, but I just committed too early," said Stephenson. "I needed to back up a little and re-think things. I have some good schools who are recruiting me and I need to look all of them over."

Stephenson moved from Kansas City to Blue Springs where he feels that will improve his game.

"It is probably the best thing for me," said Stephenson. "I like living in Blue Springs a lot better, and I like the football program a whole lot better."

Stephenson has been a starter since his 9th grade year as a left tackle. He also played defensive end and defensive tackle his first three years, but he will only go on offense this year. Stephenson averaged five pancake blocks per game.

He played with a sprained shoulder last year, which cost him some strength, but he is back at full strength. However, he hasn't maxed out on the bench since last season.

Stephenson has been offered by Kansas State, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska but he is talking to several others schools.

"Right now recruiting is not a huge priority right now and I am pretty satisfied with who has offered me so far," said Stephenson. There are other schools out there that are talking to me and telling me they are considering offering me. I am still talking to Notre Dame, Wisconsin and Oklahoma.

"I am wide open at this point. Everybody is pretty even at this point. It is unbelievable that I am not leaning towards anybody. It is unreal how even everybody is."

Is Oklahoma one of the schools that he is also talking to?

"Yes, I have a lot of interest in Oklahoma," said Stephenson. "I haven't talked to any coaches yet, but I know they have tried to get a hold of me. I haven't really tried to escalate anything from there. I hope to hear from them when the coaches can call on Friday. If Oklahoma offered I would seriously consider going to school there. I have always liked Oklahoma and I would love to go to school there."

Stephenson has qualified.
