Recruiting: Sooners looking at Memphis WR

Memphis, Tenn. wide receiver Roderick Davis profile and update.

Roderick Davis, WR, 6'0, 190, 4.5, MEMPHIS (WOODDALE HS), TENNESSEE:

Roderick Davis is a super athlete who has been the main man in the Wooddale offense since his freshman season. He is certainly not a secret in the state of Tennessee, as many believe that he is the best wide receiver prospect in the state. But he is proving to be a versatile skill position player as well.

"My primary position is wide receiver, but I have also been the punt and kickoff return man," said Davis. "I just started to play cornerback last year and this season I am playing both wide receiver and corner. I like playing wide receiver better, but I will do whatever it takes to help the team."

Davis isn't sure about his number of catches, but he does know he has 10 touchdowns. And when you think about it, that is the only stat that really counts.

"I have to give credit to my quarterback and our offensive line, because without them I wouldn't be having the success that I am. I am actually playing just as much corner as wide receiver. In the first half, it seems like I am concentrating on offense and then in the second half playing mostly on defense and in the return game on special teams. At receiver, I think I always have a chance to score every time that I do catch the ball."

Davis, who caught caught 39 passes for 780 yards and 12 touchdowns last season, camped at LSU, Alabama, Ole Miss and Auburn. He has offers from Ole Miss, Texas Tech, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Auburn, Oklahoma State and Marshall.

Davis says he likes Tennessee, Ole Miss, Texas Tech and Auburn the best up to this point, but that he is now beginning to take a look at Oklahoma.

"Oklahoma just started to talk to me recently and that certainly got my attention," said Davis. "Oklahoma is a great program and they are putting a lot of wide receivers into the NFL. I like their offense and how they are throwing the ball. I am looking forward to talk to them more in the next couple of weeks. They said they might come out to see one of my games in the next week or so."

Davis has qualified.
