On the Rise
The Sooners saw a minimal increase in the polls after last weekend's Middle Tennessee State rout, but jumped three spots to No. 13 in the Coaches Poll and two spots in this weeks Associated Press poll to No. 14. Texas is ranked 7th in both polls. See below for links to the complete polls.
Through four games, Oklahoma's strength of schedule against past opposition ranks 5th in the country, while Texas' is currently 50th. The Sooners first four opponents are 11-3 so far this season. OU's schedule based upon their future opponents is ranked 45th. The cumulative strenght of schedule, which includes opponents already and played and future opponents, is 11th.

After the off-week, running back Adrian Peterson fell from 2nd to 3rd nationally in rushing. The junior from Palestine, Texas is currently behind Northern Illinois' Garrett Wolfe (236.2 ypg) and Rutgers' Ray Rice (161.2 ypg). Peterson is averaging 160.75 yards per game. He is also still 443 yards away from passing Billy Sims on Oklahoma's all-time career rushing yardage list.
A lot of the talk previewing Saturday's battle will without a doubt be focused on quarterbacks Paul Thompson and Colt McCoy. So far this season, McCoy is 8th nationally in passing efficiency while Thompson checks in at 13th. McCoy has completed 71.1 percent of his passes to the tune of 846 yards, 10 touchdowns and just two interceptions in five games, while Thompson has completed 62.2 percent of his passes for 930 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions in four games.
A True Shootout?
Both the Sooners and Longhorns will enter Saturday's Red River Shootout ranked in the top 10 nationally in scoring offense. Texas is 4th (41.6 ppg) while Oklahoma is 9th (38.25 ppg). The Longhorns are 20th in total offense (417.40 ypg) and the Sooners are 23rd (416.5 ypg).
The Longhorns come into Saturday's matchup ranked 4th nationally in total defense (225.2 ypg) and 10th in scoring defense (11.0 ppg). Texas is 2nd nationally in run defense (36.6 ypg) and 55th in passing defense (188.6 ypg). The Sooners rank 41st in scoring defense (17.75 ppg) and 56th in total defense (321.0 ypg). OU is 66th in rushing defense (129.75 ypg) and 60th in pass defense (191.25 ypg).
Junior kicker Garrett Hartley is 8th nationally in scoring and third field goals (2.25). He is also third in field goals made (9) on the year. Adrian Peterson is 6th in scoring. Sophomore receiver Malcolm Kelly is 10th in receiving yards per game (94.75) and 28th in total receiving yards (379). Sophomore Reggie Smith is 11th in punt returns (15.92 ypr).
