Travis Lewis, ATH, 6-2, 220, 4.45, SAN ANTONIO (LEE HS), TEXAS:
JH: How is your season going thus far?
TL: "In five games, I have 1,000 yards at near eight yards per carry, five touchdowns rushing and one more receiving. I would have more touchdowns, but my quarterback keeps the ball in the red zone. In fact, we don't call it the red zone. We call it the Jerome (Tiller) Zone. He always pulls the ball from me in the red zone and takes it in the end zone. We are 3-2 on the year. We lost two tough games. We lost one by seven points and then we lost a shootout where we couldn't stop the other team. We are averaging 35 points a game right now. We just couldn't stop the other team."
JH: Are you playing on defense at all?
TL: "I am starting to play more and more on defense. At first, my coach was worried about me being on the field so much and getting so many carries on offense. But now that we are into the season he is staring to loosen up with me. I am getting some reps on defense at cornerback, free safety and outside linebacker. I am also the punter (36.0 ypp), kick-off coverage and I block on extra points. I am begging the coach to give me a shot at kick returner as well."
JH: Do you love playing all the time — never leaving the field?
TL: "I love that, really. I love playing defense and I love running the ball."
JH: Do you see yourself on offense or defense in college?
TL: "I like defense a little more than offense. I like hitting people and I love hearing that ‘ooooh' after hitting somebody."
JH: Have you gone to any games or on any official or unofficial visits?
TL: "No sir. I have not gone to any games nor have I gone on any official visits yet."
JH: What is the latest in recruiting?
TL: "It is the same. The favorite above the rest are USC, Oklahoma and Nebraska. I don't really have any new offers. I am not going to make a decision until after our season is over. I hope to make some visits before then, but right now I am just waiting to find out what the schools want me to do and what I can work out with my schedule."
JH: Among those three favorites, what position is each school recruiting you at?
TL: "They are recruiting me to play linebacker, which is fine with me."
JH: Do you have a leader among your three favorites?
TL: "No, I don't have a leader."
JH: Are you still taking to Oklahoma quite a bit?
TL: "I hear from Oklahoma every week. I talk to Coach (Bobby Jack) Wright every week. He actually came to the Wagner game this past week. It was great to see him there, and the fact he is there gives me that extra motivation to play better."
