RECRUITING: Sooners lose a good one, for now

Louisiana receiver Tristen Ross decommits. Do the Sooners still have a shot?

TRISTEN ROSS, WR, SHREVEPORT EVANGEL CHRISTIAN, LOUISIANA:

JH: Did Evangel win the 7-on-7 national championship this year?

TR: We went to Hoover, Alabama and won the seven-on-seven passing game. I played pretty well. I don't know the exact number of touchdowns I scored, but I scored quite a few. Another one of the top receivers, Chad Jackson of Hoover, was at the camp and we went against each other. I got the best of him a couple of times as he played a little DB against me and that was fun.

JH: Has practice started at Evangel?

TR: We started practice last Monday and we put pads on this upcoming Monday. Practice is going very well so far and we are just real excited about trying to win a state and national championship this year.

JH: What is going on with your recruiting at this point?

TR: I called Coach Stoops about a week ago and told him that I decommitted. I told him at that time that my family and I had sat down and decided that it was best for me if I took a little more time in making my decision. That doesn't mean that Oklahoma is out of it or that I am not going to Oklahoma, but it does mean that I want to look a few things over before making my decision.

JH: Was there something negative about Oklahoma?

TR: It wasn't negative at all and I still like Oklahoma a lot, but I just want to think about it a little more before I make a definite decision.

JH: Are you now looking to take visits?

TR: I am going to try to take all five of my visits and I want to see Oklahoma, Texas, Clemson, Michigan and Tennessee. I might also want to see Texas Tech and there are some others out their.

JH: Is there still a good chance you will sign with OU?

TR: I would say that there is still a good chance that I will go to OU. I told Coach Stoops that when I called him.

JH What did Coach Stoops say back to you?

TR: He asked me why I would want to go out and take visits when I seemed so happy at OU during his visit. I told him that I just thought it was best that I take some visits, but I told him I still had a great interest in OU. I told him that I was not going to lose interest in him if he wasn't going to lose interest in me.
