Tuesday 8/13 Evening Practice Report

Evening practice shortened by rain and thunderstorms; Pool makes a move and much, much more...

Oklahoma Head Coach Bob Stoops called practice an hour early tonight because of rain and lighting in the Norman area.

The Sooners came out and began practice as normal but were delayed for 20 minutes halfway through because of the weather. OU restarted practice and shortly after decided to call it a night an hour into the workout.

The OU coaches have been very pleased with the way junior college kicker Steve Sarubbi has kicked the ball the last several days. Sarubbi and Trey DiCarlo kicked again tonight and looked good for the most part. This race could come down to the wire. Either way, OU has two solid kickers to choose from.

OU worked tonight in their skelly drills in a driving rainstorm for about five minutes. The Oklahoma offense did surprisingly well despite the conditions dropping only one ball.

All three of OU's quarterbacks looked about the same tonight and made positive plays in terrible conditions. Jason White threw a nice touchdown pass to Mark Clayton, Nate Hybl hit James Moses for another score and Brent Rawls hit Lance Donley on a post route for a touchdown in the team drills.

One freshmen that appears to be making a move for early playing time this year is Brodney Pool. Pool is definitely the most "put together" of the freshmen defensive backs and has worked his into a battle for the backup safety spot with Michael Thompson. Freshmen cornerback Michael Hawkins also continues to work with the second unit along with Jowahn Poteat.

Matt McCoy is the backup free safety behind Brandon Everage and has appeared to have pulled away from redshirt freshmen Bobby Klink. Klinck has not been 100 percent yet in two-a-days while battling a medical problem which is causing him to fatigue faster then usual.

Curtis Fagan and Antwone Savage continue to man the first two kick return spots followed by Clayton/Brandon Jones, Jerad Estus/Antonio Perkins and Kejuan Jones/JeJuan Rankins.

The upbacks for the OU kick return team are Renaldo Works, Teddy Lehman, Derrick Hurst and Lance Donley.

Tennessee transfer Lynn McGruder was nicked up this morning and sat out a few drills at the beginning of practice before finally working into the rotation before practice ended. Tommie Harris appears to be over his injury bug and also returned to practice for the first time in two workouts. Dusty Dvoracek, Larry Birdine and J.D. Runells were all held out of tonight's workout with minor dings.

OU will scrimmage tomorrow night at 6pm on Owen Field.
