Recruiting: Four-star QB talking to Sooners

Syracuse, N.Y. quarterback Mike Paulus talks about the status of his commitment to North Carolina and interest in Oklahoma. Paulus is currently ranked as the 10th-best quarterback prospect in the nation by Scout.com.

Mike Paulus, QB, 6-5, 208, SYRACUSE (CHRISTIAN BROTHERS ACADEMY), NEW YORK:

JH: How is your season going?

MP: "We lost two weekends ago, so we are out of the playoffs."

JH: What were your final stats?

MP: "I ended up with 2,324 yards and 23 TDs and seven picks. Last year I had 2,000, so things went pretty well. We played 12 games last year and eight this year."

JH: You are currently committed to North Carolina, but they are going through a coaching change. Are you considering Oklahoma or any other programs at this point?

MP: "I talked to coach Heupel last week and I told him that I wanted to meet with the new coach at North Carolina when they sign him. I want to make that my official. And if I don't like what I see or hear, I told coach Heupel that Oklahoma would be my first trip out."

JH: How disappointed were you in the firing of John Bunting at North Carolina?

MP: "I am disappointed, but I am more focused on the assistant coaches and what they are going to do with them. I am interested in seeing what happens to Frank Cignetti (offensive coordinator). I hear that Butch Davis is going to get it, and I am very excited about that. At least that is what the press is saying around here."

JH: If it is Davis are you going to stick with North Carolina?

MP: "I will just wait and see what he is going to do, and who he or whoever brings in."
