Jason Peters, DE, 6-3, 255, BATON ROUGE (CATHOLIC JUNIOR HS), LA:
JP: I heard it is snowing in Oklahoma?
JH: "Yes, we are getting some snow in Oklahoma. It never snows in Baton Rouge does it?
JP: "Man, we never get snow around here. I haven't seen snow since I was 11. I would love to be around a little cold weather, I don't mind playing in cold weather. Cold weather helps keep me fresh during the game and I never get tired."
JH: You are still playing aren't you?
JP: "Yes sir. We are in the semifinals. We beat Rustin High last weekend 23-3. I had a good game. I had one sack and seven tackles. We are now 13-0."
JH: What kind of season have you had up to this point?
JP: "I have had a good season. I have played solid ball. The good thing about it is that I am having a good season despite the fact that more teams are scheming to block me. That is what is fantastic about our team because we have improved so much. Our other defensive end is outstanding and that has balanced our defense. Neither one of us gets blocked, so we just bottle everything into the middle. Then our defensive tackles are playing so outstanding that they move the line of scrimmage. So we have been playing as a unit and it is working great for us."
JH: What are your stats on the year?
JP: "I don't worry about stats because they are not important to me. I just focus each week on our opponent. All I care about is playing well and beating our opponent."
JH: How many schools have offered you at this time?
JP: "I have been offered by 10-12 schools. I have been offered by LSU, Georgia Tech, Arkansas, Alabama, Oklahoma, Northwestern, Illinois, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Florida and Nebraska."
JH: Do you have a leader or group of favorites at this time?
JP: "Right now I am still wide open. After the season I plan to make all my official visits, but I am not sure where yet. The day after my season is over I plan to sit down with my family and map out a plan for my visits and discuss where I should go. Then I will narrow my list down to five. I plan on taking all five official visits."
JH: What are your thoughts on Oklahoma?
JP: "I think they are a great school, but I really haven't heard that much from the coaches in the last few days. I have received text messages and I look forward to the next time I talk to them. Coach (Chris) Wilson is recruiting me from Oklahoma and I think he is a strong coach. He understands my game and what I do with my game within the framework of our defense. I look forward to the next time I talk to coach Wilson because I want to find out more about the school and the program."
JH: Did you have a favorite team growing up?
JP: "Growing up I was a fan of Southern University. My dad (Douglas Peters) was a starting quarterback there and I loved being around their football team and following their efforts. As I was growing up, I started to look harder at the Division-1 powerhouses. I am not necessarily looking for the team that wins the most right now, but for the team that plays with integrity and who plays the game right.
"I want to play for a program that wants to do things the right away and strive to play for championships. Academics are the most important thing first of all, but from a football standpoint I want to play for a team that strives to win the right way and who is always competing for championships."
JH: What do you want to major in when you get to college?
JP: "I want to become a Pharmacist or major in Pre-Med."
