Paris, Sooners take care of business

Courtney Paris records another double-double as No. 3 Oklahoma improves to 7-0.

Courtney Paris didn't score her first bucket until the 4:24 mark of the first half, but that didn't stop her or No. 3 Oklahoma Thursday night in Columbia, S.C.

The sophomore center finished with 15 points, 16 rebounds and five blocks, extending her double-double streak to 35 straight games, as the Sooners (7-0) completed their six-game road swing with a 78-51 win over the Gamecocks (5-4).

Oklahoma took charge early with a quick 9-2 run. Paris' first bucket pushed OU's lead to 32-20, but South Carolina cut the score to 32-28 at halftime.

But Paris scored OU's first seven points of the second half to push the lead back to 12, and then the Sooners hit 3-pointers on four of their next five possesssions to extend the lead to 20 points and the rout was on.

The Sooners shot 67 percent from the field overall in the second half, including 6-of-9 from 3-point range, as they put 46 points on the scoreboard in the final 20 minutes.

OU outrebounded the Gamecocks 46-32 and held them to just 28.6 percent shooting for the game.

Leah Rush and Chelsi Welch joined Paris in double figures with 13 points apiece, and senior point guard Britney Brown dished a game-high 10 assists.

The Sooners, who pushed their regular season winning streak to 21, will return to the Lloyd Noble Center this Sunday for the first time since Nov. 12 for a matchup against Arkansas Pine-Bluff. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
