Norman — Longar Longar's breakout season continued as Oklahoma won their fourth straight and improved to 8-3 with a 69-42 win over SMU (9-2) Thursday night in Norman.
The 6-foot-11 junior recorded his third double-double of the year with 20 points and a career-high 15 rebounds.
The Sooners trailed the Mustangs, who came into the game 9-1 and ranked 17th in the RPI, 3-0 early but took control over the next eight minutes to jump out to a 20-5 lead.
Oklahoma outrebounded SMU 37-29 while holding them to just 30 percent shooting (15-for-50) from the field. OU also tied their season-high with nine blocks and committed a season-low 10 turnovers.
Next up for the Sooners is a New Year's day showdown with No. 8 Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m. and will be televised nationally on ESPN.
