MBB: Seniors lift OU over Nebraska

Carter, Neal combine for 39 points in the Oklahoma's 70-53 win.

Playing without suspended center and leading scorer Longar Longar, seniors Mike Neal and Nate Carter more than picked up the slack.

The duo combined for 39 points as Oklahoma improved to 10-6 overall and 2-2 in Big 12 play with a 70-53 win over Nebraska (11-5, 0-2) Wednesday night in Norman.

Carter scored 16 of his OU career-high 19 points in the second half, as the Sooners pulled away from a 30-26 halftime lead.

Neal, who finished with a season-high 20, also turned it up in the second half hitting three 3-pointers in a 12-4 run that helped the Sooners extend their lead to 63-41 with 6:38 to go. In all, Neal was 6-for-10 from 3-point range.

Back to Carter, the senior from San Diego has now scored 65 points in OU's last four games after scoring just 53 in the previous 12 games this season.

It was also a gutsy night on the defensive end as Oklahoma, whose tallest player stood at 6-7 because of the absence of Longar, held Nebraska's leading scorer Aleks Maric just eight points and four rebounds. The 6-foot-11 center came into the game averaging 18.2 points and 7.9 rebounds a game.

The smallish Sooners also outrebounded the Cornhuskers 37-21 and held them to just 34.9 percent shooting from the field.

Oklahoma will play Baylor Saturday in Norman before traveling to Stillwater for a Big Monday matchup against Oklahoma State. Tip-off for the Sooners and Bears is set for 3 p.m.
