Recruiting: Lineman talks about visit

Blue Springs, Mo. lineman Donald Stephenson says decision could come this week.

Donald Stephenson, OL, 6-6, 275, BLUE SPRINGS, MISSOURI:

JH: What did you think of your visit to OU this weekend?

DS: "It was great. I had a lot of fun. I got to know some of the players and coaches and it ended up being a fun trip for me. I had a good time."

JH: How did it feel to be the one recruit on the visit this weekend?

DS: "It was a little bit harder because you get more attention. On my other visits there were other players there, but at OU the spotlight was kind of on me. It was OK."

JH: Was it pretty cool to have all the attention on you?

DS: "Sometimes it was and sometimes it wasn't. I still enjoyed myself. Most of the time it was pretty cool."

JH: Did you and your mom drive to Norman?

DS: "Yes, we drove. The drive was nice. I thought we were going to get some snow or something, but we didn't and it took me only four hours and 30 minutes to drive it."

JH: What did you learn about OU that you didn't know before the visit?

DS: "I got know coach (Bob) Stoops a little bit more. We had a lot of one-on-one time and he turned out to be a more down-to-earth guy than I thought he was going to be since he is so famous. I didn't know if he was going to be down-home, but he turned out to be. Actually, he was really humble. I liked that about him a lot. That was something that I really liked about the visit."

JH: What did you get to do when you hung out with the guys?

DS: "I was with a couple of the offensive linemen. We went to D.J. Wolfe's place and he had a little get together."

JH: Who were you hanging out with?

DS: "His nickname was Duke (Robinson), and Trent (Williams)."

JH: Did you feel liked you bonded with those guys pretty well?

DS: "Yeah, it turned out we had a lot of stuff in common. We got along real well."

JH: Now that your visit to OU is over where does your recruiting stand? Did you come close to committing to OU?

DS: "No, my plans before I got up there was to get off the campus and then sit down with my mom and dad and talk about it. Then I want to talk to my Coach (Kelly Donohoe) and tell him all about the visit, and then get some input from him. Then after that I will make a decision. I left Oklahoma with a good, strong feeling about them though."

JH: So where does your recruiting stand at this point?

DS: "I don't know, it is hard to tell right now. I plan on just sitting down and talking it over to see whether it is going to be KU, NU or OU. I took visits with those three schools and those are the schools that I am strong with. They are real strong and I need to figure out which one of those schools do I want to sign with."

JH: Now that you have visited OU what are your thoughts on OU?

DS: "It would be a privilege to play at OU. I know that a lot of guys want to play there, and I get a chance to do it. I want to think it over before I possibly pass it up. I don't want to pass it up, it would certainly be hard to pass it up. I mean Oklahoma is Oklahoma."

JH: Is there a pretty good chance that you will sign with Oklahoma?

DS: "Yes, there is a good chance that I will."

JH: What did your mom think of the visit?

DS: "She liked it. She enjoyed it just as much as I did. She said out of all the trips she enjoyed the one to OU the most. She is pretty strong about Oklahoma."

JH: Did you check out the offensive line, the depth in the line or the offense at all while you were in Norman?

DS: "I think I would fit in perfect in their offensive line and their offense. The OU offense has a good mixture of things in it from power to zone. Watching film of them, they have the same style of play that I do. So I feel I could fit into their offense real well."

JH: When do you feel you will announce your decision?

DS: "It will be no later than Wednesday. I hope to make my decision by tomorrow."
