Recruiting: Habern getting closer?

Texas offensive lineman Ben Habern talks about his upcoming visits and interest in Oklahoma. Habern is rated as the 48th-best player in the Lone Star State by Scout.com.

Ben Habern, OL, 6-3, 260, ARYGLE LIBERTY CHRISTIAN, TEXAS:

JH: Last week you said that you were going up to Austin this weekend to take a look at the University of Texas. Did you make that trip?

BH: "No sir. I was planning going down with my parents, but coach Mack Brown was out of town and couldn't be there. I rescheduled for this weekend for their second Junior Day on Sunday, but that isn't going to work out for me either. So I have talked to my parents and to be honest Texas is not a school that is going to be on my list. Tthey are not one of my top schools, so there is no reason to waste their time or ours. So we are not going to visit to Texas."

JH: What are your thoughts on recruiting at this point?

BH: "Oklahoma is definitely my No. 1 choice. I am going up to Notre Dame in two weeks. We are going up for a Junior Day to see the campus and everything. But Oklahoma is my No. 1 choice and I am really leaning toward them."

JH: Are you still planning on announcing your decision pretty soon?

BH: I think it will be in two to three weeks.

JH: How are your workouts going?

BH: "They are going well. At school, during our athletic period I am working out with our team. I am throwing the shot and discus in track, but we still get in a 35 to 45 minute lift. I just work on my strength and then I go out and work on throwing the shot and discus. Then we run two 300's, or two quarters, or whatever is planned for that day. Then on Monday, Wednesday, Friday after my school workout, I go work out with my trainer, who is about 10 minutes away from the school. I work out with him for about an hour and we work on pure strength training and my flexibility. Then on Saturday I also go on about 10:00 a.m."

JH: What do you bench and squat right now?

BH: "I can bench 300 and squat around 500."

JH: You do a great job when you pull so what exercises do you do to continue to improve that ability?

BH: "I work on my agility and quickness. I work on my first step coming out of my stance and I do a lot of that with my trainer during the summer. Now, we work on an hour of agilities and an hour of weight training. I am doing a lot of quickness and agility drills."

JH: What schools outside of Oklahoma and Notre Dame are you considering?

BH: "Outside of those two, I am also interested in Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State because those schools have offered me. Like I said, Oklahoma is the solid leader for me."
