Norman, Okla. — Sherri Coale's Sooners added another piece of hardware to the trophy case Wednesday night after pasting Baylor, 88-61, to win a share of the Big 12 regular season championship.

The Sooners, who finished the conference season tied with Texas A&M atop the standings and will share the title, jumped out to a 26-14 lead 10 minutes into the game and never looked back. In fact, the Bears never led and the final tie was 2-2 just over a minute into the game.

"This was the perfect game," said sophomore center Courtney Paris, who extended her double-double streak to 55 games with 28 points and 18 rebounds. "If we win the game, we win the conference title. If we lose, we don't win the title. I am just really happy to see our seniors go out like this because this is what they deserve."

"They have six seniors and this game was very important to them," said Baylor coach Kim Mulkey. "They were playing with a sense of urgency and they were going for a share of the Big 12 Championship. They were not going to be denied tonight."

Speaking of the seniors, Chelsi Welch saved her best effort for her last home game going 4-for-4 from the 3-point line en route to scoring a career-high 24 points.

"It's unbelievable," said Welch on her performance and Oklahoma winning their second-straight regular season conference title. "We would've liked to have it for ourselves, but we'll take what we can get.

"But this isn't as good as it gets," added Welch, hinting that the Sooners have more lofty postseason hopes yet ahead.

The title is the second-straight and is the fifth overall for Coale and the Sooners. However, by virtue of their head-to-head losses against the Aggies, Oklahoma will be the No. 2 seed when the Big 12 Tournament tips off next Tuesday in Oklahoma City.

The Sooners will receive a first round bye and begin tournament play at 6 p.m. on Wednesday in the quarterfinals.
