Recruiting: Owens checks out Norman

Muskogee, Okla. receiver Jameel Owens talks about his visit to Norman for the Red/White game.

Jameel Owens, WR, 6-3, 210, Muskogee, Okla.:

JH: How did you enjoy the Red/White game in Norman on Saturday?

JO: "It was a good experience. I got to meet a lot of the OU recruits and spend some time with some of the coaches. So it was a good experience."

JH: What did you think of the game itself?

JO: "It was pretty nice. It was more of a learning experience for the OU players, but it was cool."

JH: Did you just have fun watching the game or did you watch the OU wide receivers much?

JO: "I had fun, but I paid attention a little bit. I paid attention to the passing game and to the receivers that they had out there."

JH: What do you think of the quarterbacks that OU has on their roster?

JO: "They are pretty nice. They can be very good in the future."

JH: Who did you really hang around with on your visit?

JO: "I really hung out the most with some recruits that we brought from Muskogee, but I hung out with the quarterback, Landry (Jones) from New Mexico. I also hung out with Justin (Johnson) from (Gilmer) Texas."

JH: What did you think of OU getting a commitment from Landry Jones, who is one of the top quarterbacks in the country?

JO: "He has a great frame and I hear he is really good. I would love to catch the ball from him in the future."

JH: You have said before that you want to go to a school with great quarterbacks on the roster and in your class, so how does OU stack up in this area?

JO: "I am certainly confident I would get the football. I saw some highlights of Landry on Scout and he has a pretty good arm."

JH: Was this the first spring game that you have attended? Do you plan to go to any others?

JO: "I am in baseball right so I really can't make it to many of them."

JH: What position do you play in baseball?

JO: "I play outfield, mostly right field. It depends on who is pitching. I hit in the three hole and I have hit two homeruns so far."

JH: Did this weekend give you any more thought about committing to OU?

JO: "I looked into it a lot. Right now it looks like they are going to have the No. 1 recruiting class next year, so I really looked into that. I am starting to narrow down my schools now and I am trying to chose where I want to go."

JH: What schools are you still looking at?

JO: "I am keeping everybody still in the picture. But I don't think I am going to go too far away from home."
