Recruiting: Top OL makes another trip to OU

Klein, Texas OL J.B. Shugarts talks about his experience at OU's Red/White game.

J.B. Shugarts, OL, 6-7, 285, Klein, Texas:

JH: What were your impressions of Oklahoma's Red/White game?

JB: "It was a great game, I really enjoyed it. I loved watching everybody out there competing. It was great seeing how everybody has been doing, but I thought the offense dominated."

JH: What did you like about how the offense played?

JB: "Their new quarterback (Keith Nichol) was very good. He had some good runs. I don't know the name of their starting quarterback in the scrimmage, but he was hitting all of his receivers. The offensive line did a pretty good job. They did a good job running the football and the offensive line was very aggressive."

JH: Did you pay a lot of attention to the offense or just the offensive line?

JB: "At first, I just watched the O-linemen. Then I started to watch the whole offense and it started to get a lot more fun for me."

JH: What do you think of Oklahoma's ability to rush the football?

JB: "I love how they rush the football, because at my school that is all we do is run the football. So, it is almost better for me."

JH: You had a chance to talk to some of Oklahoma's commitments and some of the other recruits. Who did you hang with most of the time?

JB: "My friend, Randy, came up with me and he is a kicker. I hung out with Justin (Johnson) pretty much the whole time. Then I talked to Ben (Habern) a little bit and I also talked to Stephen (Good) a lot. I also met Britt Mitchell for the first time."

JH: Justin said you have been a real good friend for him as he has been going through some tough times?

JB: "Yeah, one of my really good friends is going through something like that so I kind of know how some people are probably just throwing it at him because of who he is. I am sure there are some people out there that don't want to see him succeed. I was just talking to him about it and telling him that he couldn't let people get him down, and that he had to stay out of those situations."

JH: What are your thoughts on Oklahoma at this time?

JB: "I like Oklahoma a lot. Oklahoma is one of my top schools and always has been. I didn't even have to go on the tour because I had already been everywhere. I just hung out and while Randy went on the tour I was watching film by myself in the film room. I watched some random game that they had on."

JH: What schools are you really considering at this point?

JB: "I am still considering the same schools, but I just got in contact with USC so I want to see what happens with that. I think they are about to offer me. Right now I am still looking at OU and Texas A&M from the Big 12, LSU and Florida from the SEC. I also like Ohio State and Notre Dame somewhat. I have started to talk to them more. Then, depending on what happens with USC I would consider USC."
