The AP named Oklahoma's Curtis Lofton as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year on Wednesday. Lofton was named All-Big 12 first team by coaches on Tuesday, but the defensive player of the year honor went to Colorado's Jordon Dizon.
Lofton, a junior linebacker, leads Oklahoma with 133 tackles, the best tackle total in Bob Stoops' nine-year tenure. He's also set a school record for most double-digit tackle games with eight.
"He has had as productive a season as any linebacker we've had here," Stoops said.
Lofton was twice named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week.
