It's Official: Sooners Head to Fiesta Bowl

Memories of the Fiesta Bowl are not fond ones for the Oklahoma Sooners. However, they get the chance to redeem themselves on Jan. 2 when they play West Virginia in this season's version. The BCS Bowl matchups were announced on Sunday...

Bob Stoops made his plea to voters and while they moved Oklahoma to No. 3 in both polls, it wasn't enough to land the Sooners in the BCS Championship game.

Oklahoma will return to Glendale, Ariz., to play West Virginia in the Fiesta Bowl, it was announced Sunday night.

The two will square off at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 2, 2008.

West Virginia enters the Fiesta Bowl as the Big East champion despite dropping a 13-9 decision to Pittsburgh in its regular-season finale Saturday night.

The loss dropped the Mountaineers (10-2) from the BCS title game and to No. 11 in today's AP rankings.

Oklahoma will enter the game with an 11-2 record. The Sooners are coming off a 38-17 win over Missouri Saturday night in the Big XII championship game.

This is Oklahoma's second consecutive trip to the Fiesta Bowl. Last season the Sooners were upset 43-42 by Boise State.

The BCS Championship will feature Ohio State vs. LSU. In other BCS games, Kansas will play Virgnia Tech in the Orange Bowl; Georgia will take on Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl; and USC will tackle Illinois in the Rose Bowl.
