The Sooners and Mountaineers (10-1) will offer a Fiesta Bowl preview of sorts (very few sorts) at 5 p.m. Saturday when the hook up on the basketball court. The game will be played at the Charleston Civic Center, away from the WVU campus, in Charleston, W.V.
The game is a continuation of a rugged December for the 9-3 Sooners, who are coming off consecutive wins over Arkansas and Gonzaga. Those two games were played within the friendly confines of Oklahoma (the Gonzaga win was at Oklahoma City's Ford Center).
This contest is a true road game for Oklahoma against a team ranked 23rd in the country, has won eight straight and is beating foes by an average of 28.9 points.
This is the second time the two teams have ever met with the first coming at the 2005 All-College Classic. West Virginia trounced the Sooners 92-68 in that meeting.
In that game, WVU shot .667 from the field, .400 from 3-point range and .870 from the foul line. The .667 was the second-highest by a team against the Kelvin Sampson-coached Sooners in his 12 years. WVU made 24-of-28 two-point field goals in the game.
The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2. It will also be broadcast on the radio on KOKC-AM 1520 and on KMOD 97.5 FM.
