Norvell Joins Sooner Staff

It was accurately thought by many people around the Sooner program that Jay Norvell would eventually be named as an assistant coach, replacing the departed Kevin Sumlin, who took the head coaching job for the Houston Cougars. Tonight the university officially announced tonight that he would indeed join the staff.

Former UCLA offensive coordinator Jay Norvell was introduced tonight as the newest member of the Oklahoma Sooner coaching staff, where he will serve as the wide receiver coach and co-offensive coordinator.

Norvell is widely considered as one of the top offensive minds in the game and will add another experienced mind to the offensive side of the ball for the Sooners wide open attack.

"I've been fortunate to have a lot of different experiences at the college and pro level, including coaching in a Super Bowl," Jay Norvell told (Official Athletic Site). "I know the Big 12 and I know the defenses in that league. I feel like I can contribute in both coaching and recruiting. I've had the opportunity to work with a lot of good coaches and players and feel I can make specific contribution with the passing game."

Before joining the Sooner staff Norvell has enjoyed successful coaching stops at programs like Wisconsin, Iowa State, Nebraska, and UCLA and has also enjoyed stints coaching in the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts and the Oakland Raiders.
