RECRUITING: Race for Pendleton heats up

Sapulpa, Okla. defensive end likes OU, Stanford and Notre Dame, but could take two more visits

CARL PENDLETON, DE, 6-6, 260, 4.78, SAPULPA:

JH: What did you think of your two visits thus far?

CP: "Notre Dame was pretty interesting. They had a luncheon and at that luncheon they had two Heisman Trophy winners present and Dick Vitale. Then later that night at dinner Tony Lasorda was there and I had dinner with him. I couldn't believe the fan support as 12 to 15 thousand people were at the luncheon. That is amazing that they would have that kind of turnout just for a luncheon.

JH: And how about your visit to Stanford?

CP: Stanford was pretty impressive because of the support network that they had for academics. At Stanford it seems everything turely leans toward the academic side. Even when I was around the athletes themselves they talked about academics. The players and coaches were very impressive and I had a great time."

JH: Now that you have visited both schools, have you changed your impression of them?

CP: "I was far more impressed with both schools then I had been before, especially at Notre Dame and all the support that they have. I was walking by the stadium and there was so much going on with students doing pushups in unison to support the team. It seemed that the student body and the general public also really looked up to the football players. They treated the football players like they were something special and I felt that was great as well."

JH: Are you going to take all five visits?

CP: "I will probably take all five visits. Besides OU (12-13), I will probably visit Kansas State and Missouri. However, I have a wrestling tournament the same weekend that I have scheduled my visit to OU so I will have to change that visit date."

JH: What are your thoughts on Oklahoma at this point?

CP: "Oklahoma is still very important to me. I still have a great interest in them and they are so impressive in how they conduct their business. They have a great team and it is so impressive how well they are playing. Right now, on defense, they are the best defensive team in the country and they are playing with so much confidence. I look forward to watching their game Saturday against Colorado."

JH: You have never really talked much about Kansas State or Missouri, what kind of chance do they really have?

CP: "Kansas State has always shown a great interest and so has Missouri. I just want to make sure that I give everybody that has shown an interest in me an opportunity to show me what they have going for them."
