NCAA TOURNEY: Sooners Head East

Oklahoma received a better-than-expected sixth seed in the NCAA Tournament, it was announced on Sunday. The Sooners will play St. Joseph's later this week in the first round. Find out who else is in the region and more....

The wait is over and it also bore some good news.

Oklahoma (22-11) learned on Sunday night that it drew a sixth seed and will play No. 11 seed St. Josephs (21-12) as part of the East Region in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The two will meet up in Birmingham, Ala., on Friday. The time has yet to be determined.

Most projections had the Sooners as either a No. 7 or No. 8 seed entering Sunday.

Instead of potentially facing the No. 1 or No. 2 seed in the second round, a win against St. Joseph's would mean a likely meeting with No. 3 seed Lousiville.

North Carolina is the No. 1 seed in the region. It will play the winner of the Coppin State-Mount St. Mary's play-in game.

Tennesse is the No. 2 seed and will play 15th-seeded American.

Other East Region games are: No. 7 Butler vs. No. 10 South Alabama; No. 3 Louisville vs. No. 14 Boise State; No. 8 Indiana vs. No. 9 Arkansas; No. 4 Washington State vs. No. 13 Winthrop; and No. 5 Notre Dame vs. No. 12 George Mason.

North Carolina is the No. 1 overall seed. Memphis, UCLA and Big 12 champ Kansas are the other No. 1 seeds.

Day, time and location is upcoming for the first-round game.
