Summer Tour Starts in Norman

To say that Kingwood offensive lineman Travis Swanson is going to tour the country would be an understatement. While the Texas prep star visits more than 10 schools for unofficial visits and football camps, he will be evaluating all these places looking for the right fit. It seems like his first stop will be in Sooner country. has update.

As he begins in preparation for an intense summer tour of several Division I colleges, Kingwood offensive lineman Travis Swanson is aware of how strenuous this college tour may be. But for the 6-foot-6, 278-pound Swanson, it is more than worth it.

"I plan to go to 8-10 camps this summer," Swanson said. "My first stop will be to Oklahoma. Then I go straight to Arizona and then home for a couple of days. Then I hit Georgia Tech and after that, either Arkansas or Texas A&M. I am trying to get my first offer."

With Swanson not holding an offer, he feels that hitting all of these camps is necessary. He said he is also hearing from Rice, Baylor, Kansas State, Texas Tech, Utah, and Kansas.

And because there is no offer on the table, Swanson is quick to say there are no favorites. He did mention that he felt like Rice was close to offering him. Aside from that, recently a Big 12 coach came by his coaches office to check in on him.

"Coach (James) Patton of Oklahoma came by here last Friday," Swanson said. "He came by to talk with my coach and they exchanged information. He and my coach have been playing phone tag. I hope they get to talk again soon."

Swanson said that once his coach makes contact he looks to call Patton himself. Of course, this will not be the first time that Swanson and Patton have spoken.

He made the trip to Norman for the Sooner spring game and spent some valuable time with the coaching staff while he was in town.

"I talked with coach Patton some after the spring game," Swanson said. "We talked and he let me know what they are looking for in a lineman. He said he wants guys who are physically and mentally tough. This, along with all of the other attributes, needed to be a good lineman.

"He told me to increase my chances of getting an offer is to come to a camp."

Which Swanson plans to do. He also has a few other things he would like to do regarding his body physically.

"I want to make sure and maintain (or gain) my weight, but make sure to stay the same speed," Swanson said. "I think that will help me get an offer as well."
