Defense: Thoughts on TCU

The Sooners have played three solid games so far, but they are going to be in for a tough match-up this weekend when TCU comes to town. The Horned Frogs will feature a potent offensive attack, and the OU defense knows that they will have to perform well to pull off a victory.

Defensive coordinator Brent Venables on TCU

"They are a good team - very consistent - very efficient at what they do. They are very good at running the ball. They average over 435-440 yards 43, 44 points a game. Their quarterback is very good, again makes great decisions."

"You are going to get the gamut in personnel and all of the formations. A lot of option principles. A lot of play action passes. You are going to see a ton of empty and you are going to see a lot of two backs and two tights. You are going to see the tight ends in a lot of short underneath passing game. They are really good at what they do. "

Linebacker Keenan Clayton on TCU

"Their numbers speak for themselves. They are a top 15 team in the country rushing and passing. They are averaging 400-something yards a game. Their numbers speak for themselves and their players speak for themselves. We can't go out there overlooking anybody. We got to go play ball, because I know they are coming to play. In 2005 they came to play and kicked our ass. It is that simple, so if we don't do what we need to do this weekend they will do it again."

Defensive tackle Corey Bennett on TCU

"It is unfortunate what happened last time they came in to Norman. It was embarrassing, but at the same time you take it as a learning experience. I know a lot of the guys who were there aren't here anymore, but it is one of those things that the younger guys know that it wasn't good on our part so they want to make sure we show up. We want to make sure it does not happen again."

"They look real good on tape. They like to run the ball. That is one thing they take pride on is running the ball. That is one thing we take pride on is stopping the run, so for the most part it is going to be a good game on both sides of the ball."

Defensive end Auston English on TCU

"They are great. They run the ball hard. They are a very physical team. They have dominated the o-line in all of their games so far, and it is just going to be a very exciting match-up."

"Comparably the best one we have played. From a physical standpoint they just like to get after people. They basically line up and say this is what we are going to do so stop us. They believe that they can and they have through the first four games."

"Watching them through the years it does not matter who they play. They are just a solid team and play people straight up."
