Sooners Land Top Safety

Yesterday The Sooners landed a commitment from four-star tight end Gabe Ikard and today they have added another major piece to the 2009 recruiting puzzle when the nation's fourth ranked safety made the call.

SI has been able to confirm via a text message that Kevin Brent, a 5-foot-11, 200-pound safety from South Oak Cliff High in Dallas, Texas did indeed make a commitment to the Sooners.

Brent is a top 100 prospect and currently rated as the fourth best safety in the country and a four-star prospect by

"He is super big, strong, and fast,"'s Baron Flenory informed. "He is a five-star type of player just because of his physical attributes."

Brent was recruited to play strong safety at OU, but Flenory - who has watched him a numerous times in person - says that he could eventually end up playing closer to the line of scrimmage.

"He could definitely end up in the box," Flenory said about Brent's talents.

The Sooners currently have one former South Oak Cliff player on their roster in starting safety Lendy Holmes and that is the person that he looks up to on and off of the field.

"Lendy Holmes," Brent simply stated when asked who he patterns himself after.

As a junior, Brent collected nearly 90 tackles and three picks while on his way to DFW safety of the year honors.

Brent will be taking his official visit to OU for the Texas Tech game.
