OU Notebook: Injury Updates

After a long and grueling regular season there are going to be some bumps and bruises. Heading in to the Big 12 title game the Sooners are dealing with a number of injuries and this afternoon Coach Stoops reported the latest on Sam Bradford, Auston English, and Austin Box.

Austin Box:

MLB Austin Box went down with an injury Saturday night in the Bedlam game, and he will be sidelined for the Big 12 Championship.

"Very similar sprain to what Auston English had, so he will be out three to four weeks," Coach Stoops informed.

There is a possibility that he could be back in time for the Sooners bowl game.

"For Austin Box the bowl game – that is too far out (to predict)."

Will JuCo transfer Mike Balogun get the nod at MLB?

"Yes," Stoops confirmed.

Auston English:

Pre-season Big 12 defensive player of the year Auston English went down in the Nebraska game, but he may be back in time to help the team in this weekend's game against Missouri.

"Auston English is possible for this game," Stoops relayed.

Frank Alexander has been playing well in English's absence, so it would only make sense that the staff will most likely ease English back in to his role.

Sam Bradford

If you were watching the Bedlam contest you would not have thought there was anything wrong with Bradford at first glance, but there were a couple of miscues on the under center exchange.

Stoops admitted that a thumb injury played a big part in the snafus.

"He actually tore ligaments in his non throwing hand – his left hand - the third series of the game," Stoops confirmed. "In all likelihood he will have surgery after the Big 12 Championship game, but we will still be supporting him with some kind of soft cast so that he will be able to take snaps."

"That is why we dropped a couple of snaps. That is why we are in the shotgun the entire second half, because of the dislocation of the finger. He was still amazing in the way that he played."
