Sooners Arrive in Florida!

Bob Stoops and his Oklahoma Sooners have touched down in Miami, Fla., and he met with the media for the first time to discuss the BCS Championship and how his team is preparing themselves for the game.

Bob Stoops, Head Coach On arriving in Miami for the BCS Championship Game…

It feels great. We're excited about it. Excited to get down here and start our work, to start our preparation for the week. It's exciting.

On the team's mindset now that they have arrived in Miami…

Now that we're down here and on our way to practice guys will focus. Obviously it's getting closer and I'm sure their focus will increase as it gets closer.

On whether this team's mindset is different than previous teams…

It's too early to tell. We've only been here ten minutes. We'll see how they handle the week. How they go through practice and how we prepare for the game. Hopefully we'll do it in a great way. Now being here it will increase our focus. Not that it hasn't been there, but each day the game's getting closer, and we've got to get more prepared to play.

On the team's game preparations prior to coming to Miami…

I feel really good. We had good work back at home and we're just hoping to continue that here this week. They were good. I thought our guys really have done a nice job of getting ready. So I've been pleased with them. They had four days off right at Christmas and then we were back for four or five days before we left.

On his 10-year anniversary of being at Oklahoma…

I feel fortunate and blessed all the time to be at the same place for ten years. I've got the same president David Boren and the same athletic director Joe Castiglione, a great administration. I've worked with great assistant coaches and real quality young guys that we've recruited into our program. It's been exciting and I hope we've got more great years coming.

On team curfew…

Our team policies are ours. It's always been that way. We don't discuss them with anybody.

On player's dealing with distractions in south Florida…

Miami is a great town, but just like any big city there's another element to it, but Miami is no different than any other big city. A lot of our guys are from big cities and hopefully we'll conduct ourselves the right way and stay away from trouble. Miami is a fabulous city. It's done the right way. They are a lot of nice restaurants and places to be and that's where I'm sure our guys will be.

On whether they will prepare differently than the past few years…

To some degree. I'm not going to discuss it all. None of it is significant enough to make a difference. Things that worked for us in 2000 in the Rose Bowl didn't work the next time, so who's to say what's right and wrong. In the end, you've gotta go out and play well when the time comes.

On whether any player's missed the trip…

We had one guy that we left home for disciplinary reasons, Desmond Jackson. [#6 RS Freshman DB from Seguin, TX]
