RECRUITING: Sooners land Houston DE

Houston defensive end John Williams talks about his decision after visiting Norman this weekend

JOHN WILLIAMS, DE, 6'5, 215, 4.7, HOUSTON (LAMAR HS), TEXAS:

JH: Did you commit to OU this weekend?

JW: "Yes sir, I sure did."

JH: What was it about the trip that sold you on the Sooners?

JW: "I liked the school, coaches, players and the whole setup and everything that I saw. I have certain goals in college and I can reach those goals by playing at Oklahoma."

JH: What are your goals?

JW: "I want to get to the league, be a good man and I want to be a dentist one day. I want to win National Championships and I want to be the best player that I can be."

JH: Who showed you around at OU?

JW: "Bubba Moses and we had a great time. We toured the campus, went out to eat and went to the WWF wrestling match. We also went to the basketball game and just had a good time."

JH: How will you fit in at defensive end?

JW: "It fits right and I like how the defensive ends come off the line of scrimmage."

JH: Who did you choose the Sooners over?

JW: "My choices came down to OU and Iowa State. I also considered Texas, Nebraska and UCLA."

JH: What were your stats this year?

JW: "I was named the defensive player of the year in Houston. I think I had 60 tackles and 17 sacks."
