Heading in the 2008 season there were a lot of questions surrounding the state of the OU linebacking corps. Throughout the course of the season Ryan Reynolds, Travis Lewis, Austin Box, and Mike Balogun all stepped up to prove that they can all perform at a high level.
Lewis will likely end up playing the OLB position in the OU defense, but he has a nice frame and with good speed he could also possibly get a look in the MLB down the line.
Lewis has already enrolled and he could compete for some playing time next season. He could definitely play a role in the special teams, a huge area of weakness for the 2008 Sooner version.
Pro Comparison: Karlos Dansby, Arizona Cardinals
Dansby is a high-energy player that helped lead the Cardinals in to the Super Bowl in 2009. He racked up 119 tackles and four sacks throughout the year and is widely regarded as one of the very best outside backers in the NFC.
Scout.com on Ronnell Lewis:
"Lewis was a true find. He plays safety and running back but seems to be a natural fit at strong side or middle linebacker in college. He has a frame that is college ready right now. He moves well and is very fluid in in and out of his cuts as a running back and he will also lay the wood coming up from his spot at safety." - Scout.com
