The Finishing Touch

The Oklahoma Sooners currently have 22 commitments for the class of 2009 and would like to possibly add at least one or two more on National Letter of Intent Day. We break down the odds of that happening in this Sooners Illustrated feature.

WR Rueben Randle: 6-3, 190, 4.45
What it would mean: A commitment from Randle, Scout.com's #1 WR prospect, would add a fourth five-star prospect and would likely place OU amongst the top five classes in the country.

Randle's Impact if he chooses OU: With the departure of three receivers a player of Randle's caliber should come right in and push for a starting role…

Chance Randle Signs with OU: There has not been any positive buzz for OU surrounding Randle. Throw in the fact that he did not even get to spend a full amount of time on campus during his official visit and LSU is pulling out all of the stops t keep him home it does not look all that likely that Randle will join the OU fold, but Stoops has pulled a surprise or two before in the state of Louisiana. This one would be the biggest and the best.

X-Factor: Sam Bradford – Who wouldn't want to catch passes from the best in college football?

Announcement Time: 12:30pm (ESPN)

WR Terry Hawthorne 6-1, 185, 4.4
What it would mean: Hawthorne's signing may not assure OU the national exposure that Rueben Randle's would, but he is just as big of a target. He is s lick receiver that could likely play in the slot or split out as flanker. His versatility in that regard makes him maybe even more dangerous.

Hawthorne's Impact if he chooses OU: Hawthorne would lay as a true freshman at Oklahoma and if he could develop a rapport with Sam Bradford he could do some big things in his first year.

Chance Hawthorne Signs with OU: People are calling me crazy across the network, because everyone now believes that Hawthorne will stick out his original pledge and sign with the Fightin Illini. I am still calling it 51%-49% and trust what we have heard on the "down low" plays out to be true.

X-Factor: National Exposure – OU receivers go to league… Nough said.

Announcement Time: 9:00am

CB Demontre Hurst, 5-foot-10, 170, 4.4
What it would mean: The Sooners would be able to capture one of their biggest rivals brightest commits, and Hurst could provide depth in a defensive backfield that will need it one year from now.

Hurst's Impact if he chooses OU: Hurst is a nice alternative to guys like Steve Williams and Darius Jones who backed out of their commitments to OU. While some may see it as a back-up plan others would look at it as an open door for new opportunity.

Chance Hurst Signs with OU: There has got to be something going on. OSU is looking in new directions late in the game and Hurst has went oddly quiet. There are times that these things get crazy, but three-star recruits very rarely go this far underground. Based on the discussions we have heard we will hedge towards this kid inking with Oklahoma.

X-Factor: Bob Stoops – Stoops is a head coach with a hands on approach to DB's.
