Just a little over four months removed from winning the Heisman Trophy and posting unprecedented numbers, Bradford has been putting in the work to lead the pack once again. Coaches say college football will see a different, better quarterback than they saw in 2008. It's hard to imagine someone being better than 4,700 yards and 50 touchdowns, but quarterbacks coach Josh Heupel said people will notice it in his ability to pick up more things opposing defenses are doing.
"It's film. It's having total command of understanding what defenses are trying to do, understanding why they're lining up in certain alignments and having a better grasp of what you're seeing on the back end. He's gotten better as we've gone through the spring. He has better command of all his protections, everything that we're doing."—Quarterbacks coach Josh Heupel on what Bradford is getting better at
2. Landry Jones and Drew Allen are making improvements:
Jones and Allen have both made progress throughout the spring as well. A large portion of that has been sitting back and watching Bradford and his progressions and how he works both on and off the field. The Sooners have found out this spring that when Bradford vacates the position for the National Football League or if he gets hurt sometime this year, either of these two will be talented enough and ready to step into the position.
"I'm excited about the two young guys that we have in Landry and Drew. They come out. They compete every day. They push each other to get better. Sam pushes those guys to get better. They got a great demeanor and attitude in the meeting room, and that's the most important thing."—Heupel on Jones and Allen
3. The Sooners locked up a great recruit:
The one more big piece of news for the quarterback update comes from Bishop Carroll Catholic High School in Wichita, Kan. Blake Bell committed to playing football at OU, and he should boost the quarterback competition when he joins the Sooners in the fall of 2010
The quarterback position looks to be in obvious good shape not only this fall but in the next few to come.
