Simek Has Strong Showing

Prague High's Denton Simek was one of the top performers along the offensive line at OU's one-day prospect camp that was held this morning on the intra-mural football fields. He has not yet received a scholarship offer, but he is hopeful his performance at the camp is a step in the right direction.

Denton Simek, a 6-foot-6, 260-pound offensive lineman from Prague High in Okla., could easily be considered as an elite national level prospect after his performance at Oklahoma's elite prospect camp.

He does not exactly have the huge frame of some of the other lineman who were performing, but he has great feet and is strong for his size and after a couple of years this 17 year old could be the prototype.

"It was really good," Simek said of his camp performance. "I loved working with Coach (James) Patton. He is really thorough and he is going to make sure that you give your most on every play."

"He would be a great coach to play for. His track record is proven. All of his players have been drafted or signed through free agency and playing in the NFL should be any players main goal when looking in to a college."

Simek was happy to represent his home state and to be considered as one of the top performers at the camp.

"It is really important to me that I performed well and represented my home state. Oklahoma get overlooked a lot, especially in football because Texas is so much bigger and they have so many players, but it shows that Oklahoma also has plenty of great players."

Oklahoma has not yet extended Simek an offer, but with offers on the table from schools like Oklahoma State, Arizona, Nebraska, Missouri, Texas Tech, and Baylor he has plenty of solid options.

But an offer from OU would vault the Sooners on to his favorites list amongst the others that have offered, and he is looking at the whole situation with the right attitude."

"They (OU coaches) want to think about it (an offer) and talk about it first," Simek explained. "I feel good about it and I feel that I proved that I can play. I do not have any regrets about how I performed. If they do not offer I still have some great opportunities out there."

Simek has already visited Arizona and plans to take unofficial visits to Texas Tech and Baylor this summer.
