A Hidden Gem?

While SI.com was out at the 7v7 tournament in Lewisville we may have stumbled upon an unknown safety prospect. David Jenkins, a 2011 recruit out of Hebron High School, may be a real gem.

David Jenkins was an impressive looking specimen and with his measurables he will assuredly be creeping up on a number of recruiting lists very soon.

"My last forty I ran at my school was a 4.43 and I'm about 6'2 and 185lbs," stated Jenkins.

With those kind of stats it's hard to imagine Jenkins not being a well known prospect. Only there is a big reason why that may be.

"I moved in from Louisiana last year and I had to sit out one year. So this will be my first year playing for Hebron," said Jenkins.

When SI.com spoke with Jenkins' coaches they had nothing to say but great things about him.

"Jenkins is going to be a big time safety," one coach informed. "He has speed and he can cover."

"Another thing most people don't know about Jenkins is that he wants to tear your head off when he hits you. He will lay you out!"

The young safety prospect has had plans to go to camps but had those plans erased by unexpected issues.

"I was supposed to go to the Texas camp but I ended up not going cause my mom got sick. She's better now though," Jenkins explained.

Jenkins is already getting looked at by a few colleges but is taking the process slow and not getting too excited about any one school.

"I'm just open right now, not trying to get my hopes up for any one college," said Jenkins

Jenkins states he doesn't have any top schools sure seems to have a real interest in the Oklahoma Sooners.

"Yeah," Jenkins began about his interest in the Sooners. "That's like, well that's not like one of my top colleges or anything but if they were to offer me a scholarship I'm sure I would take it," exclaimed Jenkins!
