Mike Price isn't having much luck with the Oklahoma Sooners. If you can't beat them, hire them.
Price's Washington State Cougars got blasted by Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl and now the new Alabama Head Coach has failed in trying to steal Brent Venables from Oklahoma coaching staff to take over as the defensive coordinator for the Crimson Tide.
Venables and Price talked on the phone for 10 to 15 minutes this week about the position. The OU Co-Defensive Coordinator told Price that he was flattered to be offered a chance at the position, but that he was very happy at OU and that he was turning down an opportunity to interview for the job.
"Gee whiz, you watch Oklahoma play and they play great. For me not to call and talk to a guy like (Venables), I don't think I'm being responsible," Price said in the Friday morning addition of the Daily Oklahoman.
Venables is paid very well at OU and he is very happy with his situation at OU. He also feels that his dream of being a head coach someday can be fulfilled at OU.
If Alabama had not been on probation Venables would have taken a hard look at the job, but since the Crimson Tide has a number of years ahead on probation, Venables decided he was much better off at OU.
Venables staying put
