OU to Compete in '09 Great Alaska Shootout

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's basketball team will compete in the six-team Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout Nov. 25-28. The Sooners will play three games at Anchorage's Sullivan Arena.

Slotted in Pool B, OU will play San Diego (16-16 last year) on Wednesday, Nov. 25, and Houston (21-12) the following day. The Sooners will face Alaska Anchorage (15-14), Nicholls State (20-11) or Washington State (17-16), all members of Pool A, on Saturday, Nov. 28.

"We are thrilled with this year's lineup," said UAA athletic director Dr. Steve Cobb. "In a perfect world we would still have eight men's teams, but with the realities of today's college basketball climate, scheduling has become as difficult as recruiting. That said, we should have some of the best basketball in the country being played right here in Anchorage, as usual, on Thanksgiving week."

Oklahoma has competed in the Great Alaska Shootout on two previous occasions (1983-84 and 2004-05 seasons) and finished in third place (eight-team fields).

The remainder of OU's non-conference schedule is expected to be announced soon.
