Warren Named Preseason All-Big 12

NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma sophomore guard Willie Warren was named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team, the conference announced Thursday. Warren is one of six players on the squad (there was a tie in voting) that was selected by the league's head coaches.

Joining Willie Warren on the preseason all-conference team were preseason co-players of the year Cole Aldrich and Sherron Collins of Kansas, Craig Brackins of Iowa State, James Anderson of Oklahoma State and Damion James of Texas.

Warren was last season's unanimous choice as Big 12 Freshman of the Year and was a second-team All-Big 12 honoree. He was also tabbed a freshman All-American (Athlon Sports named him national freshman of the year) after averaging 14.6 points and 3.1 assists per game. Warren led OU with 67 3-pointers and a .372 mark from behind the arc. His 67 treys set an OU freshman record.

The 6-4, 203-pounder from Fort Worth, Texas, was a seven-time Big 12 Rookie of the Week in 2008-09 for the 30-6 Sooners. He recorded seven games of at least 20 points, the most by an OU freshman since Tim McCalister in 1983-84. Warren scored at least 27 points four times and broke the 30-point barrier twice.

Three players -- Kansas State's Denis Clemente and Texas's Avery Bradley and Dexter Pittman -- were honorable mention picks for this year's Preseason All-Big 12 Team. Bradley was named preseason freshman of the year and Iowa State's Marquis Gilstrap was named preseason newcomer of the year.

Oklahoma plays a home exhibition game Nov. 3 against the University of British Columbia and begins regular season play Nov. 14 with a home contest against Mount St. Mary's. For ticket information, call (800) 456-4668.
