Way Earns Kicking Job

With three losses it is much easier to make changes and a huge change was made this Saturday when Tress Way supplanted Jimmy Stevens as the Sooners' field goal kicker.

At times, OU sophomore kicker Jimmy Stevens hasn't hit the ball like the coaches have expected, occasionally missing extra points or key field goals.

So, the Sooners decided to go with a change in today's lineup, replacing him with redshirt freshman kicker Tress Way.

And it's a change the Sooners hope will give the kicking game more solidity.

"I just feel Tress has been more and more solid through practice, and we need more consistency there," said OU head coach Bob Stoops.

"We can't have one missed here and there. It needs to be [consistent], so I'm going to give Tress his opportunity and see if he can be more consistent there."

Way is now handling all of the place kicking and punting duties, while Matt Moreland will continue to handle the kick-off duties.

On the season Stevens is 11-of-13 on field goals with the misses coming from 40 and 45 yards. His 1.8 FG/game ranks No. 8 nationally. He has made 21-of-22 PATs.

He tied the school record for field goals made when he went 4-of-4 against Baylor.
