Will Haywood Get an OU Offer?

At Sooners Illustrated, we look to bring you the most up-to-date information on Sooner prospects and commits. Today, we got the chance to talk with tight end Austin Haywood from Southmoore, OK.

At this point in the process, Southmoore (OK) tight end/defensive end Austin Haywood is keeping all options open. Though he holds more than five offers and several more teams ready to step up, Haywood remains neutral.

But of all the schools that have stepped up and those soon to come, there are two that the 6-foot-4, 245-pound feels will come through here real soon.

"I have offers from Baylor, Arizona, Colorado State, Kansas. I just talked to Louisville and think an offer will come soon from there too," Haywood said. "Oklahoma has been showing me some interest too. In fact, they (Sooner coaches) called me this week."

Haywood said that Oklahoma's assistant recruiting coordinator David White placed a call to him to give him (pretty) good news.

"He (White) was telling me that had a meeting recently and my name came up," Haywood said. "He said that the coaches got my tape and he talked with coach (Bob) Stoops and they liked my film. He said that once I got my grades right, that I could get an offer."

With that said, does Haywood think that an Oklahoma offer is coming?

"I think it will. I just have to make sure and keep my grades up because they want to make for sure that I will be eligible," Haywood said. "I am staying on top of it and would like for an offer to come."

From the tone of Haywood, it seemed like there may be a slight advantage to the home team Sooners, but not the case. While Oklahoma is on pursuit, along with others previously mentioned, he said that schools like Miami, Oklahoma State, Kentucky and Syracuse are all trying to put a name in the hat as well.

So where does Oklahoma stand?

" I have a lot of interest in Oklahoma, but I have interest in lots of schools," Haywood said. "So far, Kansas is the only school I have (unofficially) visited. I fly out to Arizona on November 7 for an official visit."

He did mention that he has been to a couple of Oklahoma games, against Baylor and Tulsa.

For Southmoore, Haywood is having a breakout year. He has 13 total touchdowns offensively, 50 tackles, two interceptions (one went for a touchdown) and a 76-yard fumble recovery touchdown.
