Shaw Drops OU trip, Headed to ACC

Recruiting coverage at SoonersIllustrated continues as we look to bring fans the latest in Oklahoma recruiting news. Here is an update on one of California's top defensive backs Joshua Shaw.

Not long after he got all of the details finalized with his Oklahoma trip, Palmdale (CA) athlete Joshua Shaw has switched some things up. The official visit that was once set for the weekend of November 14 against Texas A&M has been cancelled.

"I had a change in heart and I am no longer visiting Oklahoma. I will take a trip to Miami on the weekend of December 12," Shaw said. "That is the weekend when the coaches have all of the guys who are mid year graduates in town."

For the 6-foot-2, 185-pound Shaw, he said the Hurricanes have just recently came into the picture when they offered him this past Saturday. And while the trip to Norman was pretty much a done deal, it really came down to one place or the other.

"Miami offered and I had to make a choice. And I just have more interest in Miami than Oklahoma," Shaw said. "I do not know a lot about them, but I do have lots of interest. My interest will continue to get stronger as communications get better."

This will be the final official trip for Shaw as Notre Dame, LSU, Ohio State and Florida have already showed him what all has to offer. Since he is graduating early, the Miami visit will be the finale.

But there will be at least one more visit unofficially before it is all said and done. And, it is not a school on the west Coast.

"Before I commit I plan to take one more trip to Florida," Shaw said. "I just want to get another look."

As for as a commitment, Shaw said that he would make it official at the Under Armour All-American game.

With the cancellation, Shaw did not get the chance to speak directly with the Oklahoma coaches. But he got the news from his coach at Palmdale.

"My coach called coach (Bobby Jack) Wright and told him that I would not be visiting," Shaw said. "Coach told me that coach Wright was pretty disappointed."

So with the cancelled trip, does that take the Sooners out of contention?

"Yeah, pretty much," Shaw said.
