Stoops Shoots Down ND Talk

NORMAN, Okla. – The Bob Stoops to Notre Dame talk has reached a feverish pitch, but this afternoon he shot down the rumors that he would be taking the job in South Bend.

Charlie Weis was fired by Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick on Monday, and according to many personas that follow the program closely the Irish desperately wanted to hire Bob Stoops.

But when the talk got so rampant that recruits that the Sooners are still tracking started to get nervous about his future with the program Stoops felt it was necessary to address those rumors.

And he did just that on Monday afternoon.

"I can't help what's said," stated Stoops in a conference call with reporters.

"What I am saying is that I am going to be at Oklahoma next year!"

"I fully intend to be at Oklahoma and hopefully for a good while. You never know what the good lord brings you, but in the end I couldn't be more excited, even through a tough year, the quality of kids we are working with and the great people we work with daily in our administration," Stoops continued.

"In the end the players I am recruiting understand that is what I am excited about and that's what I intend to do. Again, I couldn't be more excited and pleased about what we are doing here and what the future holds."

Stoops and his Sooners, which just finished 7-5 in an injury plagued '09 season, have won 30 consecutive games on Memorial Field in Norman.
