Stanford to Present "Physical" Challenge

NORMAN, Okla. – Coach Stoops and OU starting quarterback Landry Jones expect the Stanford Cardinal to bring a very physical game to the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas on Dec. 31.

Coach Stoops' thoughts on the Sun Bowl…
"On behalf of our program here at Oklahoma we are just excited to have the opportunity to play in the Sun Bowl. I am sure it will be a great experience."

"Again (we are) playing an excellent football team in Stanford. Coach (Jim) Harbaugh and his staff have done a great, great job. I got to see parts of their game against SC and I thought (they were) just very impressive as a football team, so we understand it will be a big challenge as well. But we are looking forward to go down to El Paso and I am sure just being involved in the Sun Bowl will be a great experience."

"Just excited about it. I am sure it will be a great experience. Playing an excellent football team and Stanford. I am sure it will be a great experience and a big challenge as well."

Coach Stoops on the team having extra practice days to prepare for a bowl…
"That's always good. We will get in several weeks here after we get off the road recruiting and just giving our young guys extra experience on the field is always good."

Coach Stoops' thoughts on Toby Gerhardt…
"I can tell you I got to see a decent part if the USC game and I was just incredibly impressed with Toby. (I was impressed with his) toughness and just everything about him… His power (and) his patience to see the holes. Again, just a very impressive football player."

Coach Stoops talks OL Chase Beeler, who transferred from OU to Stanford….
"I am sure he is doing great out there. Again, their team has done so well and I am sure he has been a big part of it. Again, (I) just hadn't had time to see tape and those types of things, but we are happy for Chase for his experience out there and what he is doing. I am sure has been a very rewarding and great experience for him."

Landry Jones on playing closer to home….
It's really nice to get back down there. El Paso is about three and a half hours from Artesia, so it will be nice to get back down to that part if the country and hopefully I will have quite a bit of people coming to the game from my part of the area.

Landry Jones on the match-up with Stanford….
I got to watch a little bit of that SC game. And I saw what kind of physical team they are and it is going to be a big challenge for us going down to El Paso and having Stanford come in, they are a big physical football team and we are going to have to play really well to have a chance for this game and go out there and play the best we can against Stanford.
