DePriest Looks to Travel this Off-season

Recruiting coverage at SoonersIllustrated continues as we bring fans the latest in Oklahoma recruiting news. Today, we talked with junior linebacker Trey DePriest from Springfield High School in Ohio for an update.

As soon as official offers could be extended to the Class of 2011, Springfield (OH) linebacker Trey DePriest got a lot of great news in the mail. One of which was the one from the Big 12 Oklahoma program.

Of course this was back in September when the 6-foot-1, 220-pound DePriest had only six offers in hand. Things have changed.

"I am up to about 15 offers now. My latest are from Alabama, North Carolina and Illinois," DePriest said.

Because of the football season this past year, DePriest did not do as much traveling as he would have liked. He did manage to catch some Ohio State and Michigan games, but that was all he was able to make.

So schools like Oklahoma State, Michigan, Duke, Stanford, Pittsburgh, Central Michigan, West Virginia, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech and Cincinnati, all whom have offered, have not been able to see him on campus yet.

But that may change in the near future. And one visit is already scheduled.

"I'll be going to the Under Armour All-American Combine around New Years," DePriest said. "Then on January 30, I plan to go to Alabama. I recently got that offer."

One offer he has had for a long and was excited to receive was from the Sooners. And while DePriest is quick not name any favorites, he is going through the process with ‘his eyes open' as he stated not long ago.

And the reality is he is not aware of where he stands with the school he got an early offer from.

"I haven't heard from Oklahoma in a while. I get a few letters here and there but that is it," DePriest said. "Of course I want to hear from them more, but there are a lot of schools I hear from everyday."

But for DePriest, the door is still clearly wide open.

"I'm just going to take a lot of visits this off season. Oklahoma will likely be on my list," DePriest said. "I'll try and make an unofficial visit, or come down for a junior day."

In his junior season for Springfield, DePriest had 101 tackles (10 for loss) and seven sacks. Offensively, he had 812 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns.
