STILLWATER, Okla. — Sherri Coale's Sooners just seem to have Oklahoma State's number.
The Oklahoma women's basketball team extended their winning streak against Oklahoma State to nine games with a 71-59 win over the Cowgirls Saturday in Stillwater.
The Sooners closed the first half with a 15-2 run spurred by freshmen guard Chelsi Welch that helped them overcome an early four point deficit to take a 32-23 halftime lead. Welch, who led all scorers with 18 points, scored nine points in the run that put the Sooners in the lead for good.
Oklahoma State cut the lead in half to begin the second half, but the Sooners scored 14 straight points to blow the game open and extend the lead to 46-27.
Two others Sooners key to the win while posting double-doubles were senior Theresa Schuknecht and freshmen Beky Preston. Schuknecht scored 12 points nad grabbed eleven rebounds while Preston scored 13 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and also blocked three shots.
With the win the Sooners take over sole possession of fifth place in conference play with just one game remaining. OU is now 9-6 in Big 12 play and 18-10 overall. OSU falls to 7-19 overall and 3-12 in Big 12 play.
Oklahoma will close out the season on Wednesday when they travel to Austin to take on No. 10 Texas. The Longhorns won the first meeting in Norman, 60-54, on January 29.
